Nigel Davison is our guest artist for our 2026 exhibition. 

Nigel Davison MA LCC aims to embrace the meaning and significance behind all aspects of the County of Kent through an interpretive exploration of its landscape. This embraces profound universal themes of how we have integrated and interacted with the environment we inhabit.

He works in sketchbooks en plein air and develops these initial watercolour sketches into paintings in the studio, which then form the basis for multi-block or reduction lino prints and engravings. He uses various tools to work on the lino surface and subsequently editions the prints on his 1830 Super Royal Columbian printing press. The reduction process involves printing the lightest colours first followed by subsequent cuttings of the same block and reprinting, this builds up layers of different colours of translucent ink which produces a similar effect to the initial watercolour sketches. The final lino print can include as many as eight separate translucent colours.

On leaving UCA Farnham with a BA in Three Dimensional Design and Printmaking he won first prize in a national printmaking competition. He has work in the collections of Adelaide University Library, British Library, Saison Poetry Library and many other private collections worldwide.
